Nicholas Fennell

Nicholas Fennell continued his unbeaten start to the season with victory in the men’s event at the Medway Velo 10-mile time trial in Kent on Saturday, while Emily Tanner was fastest woman.

Thanet RC rider Fennell, who was clear favourite to win on Spindata, now has four consecutive wins after clocking 20-24 over the course, with Samuel Thienel (Elysium Kalas Race Team) 30 seconds back in 20-54 to take second while Woolwich CC rider Alex Pearson finished in 21-55 to complete the podium places.

Woolwich CC’s Tanner clocked 27-09 to win the top female prize, 11 seconds ahead of Kent Velo Boys/Girls rider Debbie Percival who registered 27-20 and a time of 28-15 helped Sally Smith (Medway Velo Club) to third place.

Elsewhere, Mark Hill backed up his fourth place overall by claiming the fastest Veteran on Standard time in +1-12, ahead of Simon Henderson in +1-45 to seal second place.

“I was pleased with the ride, it’s starting to feel like I'm getting going now this season,” said Fennell. “As always it was a well-run event by Medway Velo so like to support the clubs that run events.

“I don’t have any big plans this season, may have a look at some faster courses later in the summer. Currently I’m just enjoying riding my bike fast.”

Emily Tanner

There was more success for Thanet RC with Paul Burrows, in 22-10, finishing as fastest man on a road bike and Tanner also fastest woman on a road bike, with quickest Espoir going to Woolwich CC’s Daniel Fowler in 24-51.

This 10-mile event, run on the Q10/24 course, starts just west of the Isle of Grain village and heads west on the A228 to turn at Fenn Corner roundabout and then follow the route back on the A228 to finish just south of the start line.
