Jack Rees (HUUB WattS
hop) and junior rider Sophie Heighton (Ferryhill Wheelers) were clear winners in the men’s and women’s events at the Ferryhill Wheelers CC (Andy Oliver Memorial) sporting time trial over 20 miles.
Scratch rider Rees recorded a winning time of 43 minutes and nine seconds over the new course in North Yorkshire.
The rural time trial saw competitors complete one large loop starting outside North Cowton before heading out on the B1263 to Scorton before incorporating the villages of Great Langton, Streatlam and Atley Hill.
Once competitors completed a full lap (16 miles) riders then proceeded on an out and back loop of the B1263 out to Scorton before returning to the start/finish near North Cowton.
Rees, aged 33, finished fourth during his first open time trial of the season at the Cleveland Whs CC 21.7 last month and took victory on this occasion.
A close battle for second saw Richard Lilleker (Cleveland Wheelers) clock 45-05 which was seven seconds faster than quickest veteran on scratch Stephen Adamson (Fietsen Tempo) in third.
In the women’s event junior rider Sophie Heighton (Ferryhill Wheelers) continued her impressive season by recording a winning time of 56 minutes and 48 seconds.
Veteran rider Jo Scott (Darlington Cycling Club) finished second in 1-00-52 while Vicky Miller (Cleveland Coureurs) was third stopping the clock in 1-07-34.
The mixed team competition was won by host club Ferryhill Wheelers with a trio of Shaun Wakes (48-14), Peter Greenan (52-42) and Heighton (56-48) all contributing toward the time.
