Euan Adam followed up his success at the Harrogate Nova CC 10-mile time trial on Saturday with another victory at the Darlington CC 10-mile time trial on Sunday, while Caroline Ratcliff won the women’s category in North Yorkshire.

Riding for Durham City Velo, Adam secured a stunning triumph by just two seconds, clocking 21-02 from Toby Simpson’s 21-04 to force the Fietsen Tempo rider into second place while Vector Racing veteran Keith Murray finished third in 21-37.

Adam now has four wins from 14 rides this season, and his first since success at the Sunderland Clarion 10-mile time trial, with his other win coming at Yorkshire Road Club 25-mile time trial on June 3.

On his double triumph, Adam said: “It’s an amazing feeling, these are the last TT’s I’m doing this season so a great note to head into winter on.”

Ferryhill Wheelers had double the reason to celebrate in the women’s event with Caroline Ratcliff first in 26-31 and clubmate Sophie Heighton runner-up in 27-42, while the final spot on the podium went to Jo Scott of Darlington Cycling Club in 28-32.

Ratcliff was just seven seconds off her own existing course record of 26-24, while Adam was unable to lower the time of 20-17 set by Matthew Cole.

In other categories the road bike category was won by Iain Hodgson, with Andy Rose second. 12-year-old Annabelle Carter was fastest female on a road bike with an impressive performance, while the top team was the host club Darlington CC.

This event, run on the T104/3 course, starts on the A1 (M) and heads south east to Aiskew, turning southwest down to Bedale before riders turn and follow the route back to finish north of the start line.
