Martin Mikkelsen-Barron

VC Cumbria’s Martin Mikkelsen-Barron proved quickest at the AIMS Cycling hill-climb near Kildale in North Yorkshire, clocking exactly three minutes to come within three seconds of the course record.

Meanwhile, Annabelle Carter (Manilla Cycling) was fastest female on the one-kilometre climb, covering the hill in 6.03.

Starting in Kildale the first 300 metres of the climb on Gribdale Moor is virtually flat before the climb kicks up at different variants with a maximum of 20 per cent.

Mikkelsen-Barron was five seconds faster than runner-up Marcus Cram (Muckle CC), while his team-mate Lee Ager took third, another three seconds off the pace.

Also close to the podium was Cleveland Wheelers’ Richard Lilleker in 3-10, with the top four being separated by just ten seconds.

And fifth overall was fastest juvenile Lewis Maynard, who beat the old junior course record by just one second.

The event saw a record entry as AIMS Cycling continue to build this event, and it will be repeated again next spring.
