Marcel Schubert earned a seventh win from 10 races so far this season with victory at the Richmond Cycling Club 25-mile time trial in Yorkshire on Saturday morning, while the women’s event was won by Stephanie Stephenson.
Darlington Cycling Club’s Schubert finished ahead of the field in 57-00, 38 seconds in front of runner-up Rob Carter (Cleveland Wheelers CC) in 57-38, while Teesdale CRC’s Adam Pinder was third in 59-51.
Carter was also fastest on a road bike, with Graham Thompson (Protech Velo) second in 1:02-25 and his clubmate Shaun Tyson third in the road bike category in 1:03-29.
Schubert followed up his win at Richmond CC with success at the 28-mile Merlin Cycles Classic Series time trial on Sunday – bouncing back from third place at the 47-mile Tyneside Vagabonds CC mountain time trial on May 21.
On his success, Schubert said: “It has been a really good day. There was a slight headwind to Grinton and it was very tough on the climb with the warm weather.
“I missed my PB due to traffic and a mechanical but happy very happy with the win.
“The event was really well organised by the Richmond CC team. This course is a favourite of mine and I will very likely be back next year.”
In the women’s event, Stephenson, riding for the host club, clocked 1:12-25 with team-mates Kimberley Gray and Melissa McDermid second and third in 1:22-26 and 1:22-59 respectively, with all three competitors on road bikes.
This 25-mile event, run on the T243 course, starts just east of Richmond and riders head east on the A6108, turning southbound past Marske then taking the right fork onto the B6270 to complete a large loop past Downholme and continuing back to retrace the first part of the course back to the finish.
