Marcel Schubert claimed victory as fastest male at the Stockton Wheelers’ 23-mile time trial in Durham on Sunday morning, with Caroline Ratcliff quickest female on the course.
Darlington CC’s Schubert clocked 51-21 to claim a third win of the season ahead of VTTA Yorkshire rider Mark Wolstenholme in 52-50, with third place taken by Matt Hill of Velo Club Godalming and Haslemere.
Schubert has enjoyed a strong season to date, also winning the 10-mile Yorkshire VTTA time trial on March 4, and the Cleveland Wheelers 21.7-mile time trial on March 26, alongside finishing runner-up at the National VTTA Championship 25-mile time trial in April.
Ratcliff’s time of 1:07-16 saw her finish as fastest female, while Gemma Harcombe-Moore of Manilla Cycling won the women’s event in the road bike category.
On road bikes, Josef Murray of AIMS Cycling led the field in 54-58, while Protech Velo pair Shaun Tyson and Graham Thompson were second and third in 55-44 and 56-20 respectively.
This 23-mile event, run on the T235 course, starts just east of Redmarshall and proceeds through Bishopton, up the hill to Great Stanton T Junction with a left turn back south to Sadberge, then left towards Norton back to Redmarshall village then repeating the first lap via Stainton and Sadberge Village to continue left, on towards Bishopton and finish at the entrance to Stoney Flat Farm.
