Jack Levick

Jack Levick (Rose Race Team) stormed to victory in the Darlington CC/VTTA 25, while junior rider Isabel Mayes (Shibden HopeTech Apex) won the women’s event.

Levick, aged 25, had a successful trip to the North Yorkshire producing an excellent ride of 51 minutes and 18 seconds.

The T254/1R saw riders start and finish in Bedale before completing out and back two laps of a 12.5-mile course on the A6055 – running adjacent to the A1.

The course conditions were dry but cold (eight degrees Celsius) with an eight miles per hour north-easterly crosswind making for good times, but slightly down of Spindata predictions for most.

Levick won 12 open time trial events last season and opened his account for 2023 with a fine ride finishing 41 seconds clear of his nearest opponent.

Liam Beaty (Scottish Borders Racing Team) was the only other rider to beat the 52-minute mark stopping the clock in 51-59 to finish second.

There were two other riders in close proximity with Alexander Royle (Manchester BC) taking third in 52-19 and Douglas Watson (GTR-Return to Life p/b Streamline) had to settle for fourth (52-38).

Junior rider Mayes was a convincing winner in the women’s event stopping the clock in a time of 1-04-12.

Mayes, aged 16, also won the Yorkshire VTTA 10 last month and made it two wins from as many open time trial events.

A close battle for third saw Kimberley Gray (Richmond CC) clock 1-13-18 which was 34 seconds faster than Annabel Sill (Cleveland Whs) in 1-13-52.
The Darlington CC also included a road bike category with 12 of the 55-strong field qualifying on non-aerodynamic bikes.

Prolific winner in the road bike category, Rob Carter (Cleveland Whs CC) added another to his collection storming to victory in a winning time of 55-21 - almost nine minutes clear of second placed Paul Stables (Teesdale CRC) in 1-04-12.

Fellow Teesdale rider Damien Riley completed the road bike podium positions taking third place in 1-05-52.

Top male veteran on the newly adopted age adjusted standards was Russ Richardson (Zurbaran Racing) with an actual time his 57-47 adjusted to 51-32.

First female veteran on standard was Caroline Ratcliff with an age adjusted time of 57-26.
