Emma O’Toole and Tom Clements were fastest female and male riders at the Wessex Road Club 50-mile time trial in Dorset on Sunday morning.

Clements (Wessex Road Club) smashed the four-year-old course record with a time of 1-46-39, which was 1-15 quicker than the old 2019 record set by Sam Wadsley. It gave him victory on the day by 1-34 from Andrew Rivett (VC St Raphael).

Third spot went to Steven Pink (Poole Wheelers) with 1-55-43, with his team-mate Noah Miller-Pipe being fourth, a couple of minutes further off the pace.

O’Toole (Districts of Hamwic Cyclesport) covered the P417 course in 2-09-34 and was quickest female by almost six minutes from runner-up Laura Daly (Fulfil the Potential Race Team), while third quickest woman was Lauren Fletcher (Poole Wheelers).

On road bikes victory went to Oliver Edwards (Wessex Road Club) in 2-08-44 to win by over eight minutes from VC St Raphael rival Stephen Skinner, with Paul Ramsay (CC Weymouth) third, another six minutes back.

While Rivett had to settle for second overall he was the fastest veteran on target time, while in other categories Wessex Road Club won the team prize.

This was Clements’ first open time trial victory of the season so far having placed second in his two previous rides, the Poole Wheelers 25 last month and the Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers sporting 42km event in April. He will be aiming for more success next weekend when he tackles the Poole Wheelers 10.

This was just the latest of several 2023 wins for Emma O’Toole, who has also been victorious at the Bournemouth Arrow 10, the Sussex CA 25, the Poole Wheelers 25 and the Hounslow and District Wheelers 100-mile event.
