Louisa Cooper (Poole Wheelers) was fastest female, while Chris McNamara (Sigma Sport-Cannondale) won the men’s event on the Portsdown Hill circuit near Southwick in Hampshire on Sunday morning.
Having won this event in 2018 and 2019, Chris McNamara added another victory to his palmares with a time of 36-26, giving him victory over brother and team-mate Simon by 1-24, while third was TAAP Endura rider Matthew Downie, who was just one second further back.
McNamara’s time was a new course record, slicing 1-42 from his own old mark.
“I was really pleased with my ride,” said Chris McNamara. “I wasn’t really sure what to expect as I struggled with Covid in December but have put in a really consistent January so this was a good test - I like this course and think it suits me well.
“Conditions were excellent, quite mild and a slight tailwind along the cliffs so about as good as you’ll get in February, I think I paced it pretty well backing up the two laps fairly consistently and didn’t fade.”
40-year-old Louisa Cooper, from Poole in Dorset, clocked 47-38 to take a comfortable win over the next fastest female Rosie Wingate (Liv CC Halo Cycles), while the road bike category was won by Ollie Winwood-Bratchell (VC Venta).
His time of 39-35 was the sixth fastest overall and quickest on a road bike by almost two minutes with Loughborough Students CC member Tommy Blake second and Larry Wiltshire (Chichester City Riders) third, another 56 seconds back in 42-24.
Storey Racing’s Lucy Gadd teamed up with Jordan Giles (Primera TeamJobs) to clock 39-12 and finish as the fastest in the two-up event, 39 seconds better than Poole Wheelers duo Ryan Weston and Alex Rowling.
The P821 course takes riders from the start to the west of Southwick roundabout to South Boarhunt, Portsdown Hill and back to Southwick.
