Lindsay Clarke

David Mead (Team Lutterworth Cycle Centre) started his birthday celebration early and was the only rider to break the 21-minute mark as he charged to victory in the Northampton & District CA 10, while Lindsay Clarke (Fenland Clarion CC) won the women’s event by two minutes.

Veteran rider Mead, turned 47 the day after the event, and took his second open time trial victory of the season stopping the clock in 20 minutes and 35 seconds.

The N3/10 saw riders start near Lamport before heading out and back on an unclassified road - which runs adjacent to the A14 for the final part - out to the Rothwell Interchange before making the slightly longer return journey.

Riders were greeted by good conditions with a spot of rain but otherwise fine and dry. The wind direction was unpredictable with riders experienced tough conditions in different sections of the course.

Mead, from Nuneaton, also won the Stratford CC 10 in April recording a time of 20-00 on that occasion and despite being slightly slower this time out he added another win to his collection.

George Fox (George Fox Cycling Solutions) has been on fine form so far this season but had to settle for the runner-up position this time out in 21-18.

Early starter Ryan Witchell (Team Salesengine.co.uk) completed the podium positions posting a time of 21-34.

Spindata had predicted a victory for Fox in 21-08 with Mead a further 20 seconds. However, the experience of Mead saw him upset the prediction and knock 45 seconds off his forecasted time of 21-20 to take a fine victory.

In the women’s event veteran rider Clarke posted a winning time of 26-17 which was exactly two minutes clear of her nearest challenger.

That was the only woman on a road bike Judy Brown (Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club) who finished second overall in 28-17, while Maria Gent (Kettering CC) completed the podium positions in 28-42.

The men’s road bike category was closely fought with Patrick Ellerbeck (St Neots CC) taking his third victory in the category this season stopping the clock in 25-11.
Just 22 seconds back was Richard Latimer (Welland Valley CC) in 25-33, while David Cook (Bedfordshire Road CC) finished third (29-34).
