Oliver Wade (Mid Devon Cycling Club) and Hannah Bayes (Saint Piran) took their second wins of the day at the Saint Piran hill climb on Long Hill.
Both riders won the men’s and women’s events respectively in the morning’s Mount Wellington event before following it hours later by winning on Long Hill.
Junior rider Wade completed the two-mile climb in a winning time of six minutes and five seconds to complete an impressive day of wins.
Starting outside the Bike Chain Ricci Café Bissoe riders shortly turned on to Long Hill before tackling the climb and finishing at Quarry Farm.
Wade finished second in both the Saint Piran hill climbs last season on Mount Wellington and Long Hill and went one better on this occasion to take his first open victories.
Tristan Kelsall-Spurr (Exeter Wheelers) finished runner-up on the shorter Mount Wellington climb in the morning’s event and repeated that result finishing 15 seconds behind the winner in 6-20.
A close battle for third saw Jonathan Hobbs (Okehampton CC) finish in 6-34 which was a single second quicker than Sam Nancarrow (Saint Piran) (6-35), while Oliver Baylin (www.giant-helston.co.uk) was just four seconds off the podium placing fifth in 6-38.
In the veteran’s category Phil MacFarlane (Saint Piran) was quickest in 7-39, ahead of James Barrowcliffe (05/03) in second (8-14) and Bob Symons (PDQ Cycle Coaching) in third (11-44).
Bayes beat her own course record in the women’s event stopping the clock in seven minutes and 17 seconds – knocking five seconds off her previous mark.
The Saint Piran rider finished 10th in the National Hill Climb Championship two years ago and showed her form over the hilly terrain once again.
Veteran rider Lindsay Philp (Wadebridge Coasters Cycling Club) was the only other woman competitor and she stopped the clock in 8-43.
