Conrad Moss lived up to his pre-race status as favourite with victory in the men’s event at the Giant Helston 25-mile time trial in Cornwall on Sunday morning, while Eve Sealy finished as quickest woman.

Nopinz rider Moss has now secured 15 wins from his last 15 completed races, bouncing back emphatically from failing to finish his last event at the Plymouth Corinthian CC 50-mile time trial on June 18.

He finished more than three minutes ahead of his closest rival in 49-06, while Giant Helston rider Jason McGowan clinched the runners-up spot in 52-13 and his team-mate (and event organiser) James Grogan pinched third place in dramatic fashion in 53-56, just a second faster than fourth-placed Lubos Obornik.

Cranbrook Cycle Club’s Obornik registered 53-37, while there was a tie for fifth place between Philip Ley (North Devon Velo) and Chris Vellacott (Royal Navy & Royal Marines Cycling Association) who both finished in 54-11.

On his success, Moss said: “I've only raced one 10-mile race in May,  so I've got a lot of work ahead if I'm to match last year's run.

“It was pretty warm and humid, with rising crosswind that was pretty stiff over the Moor, and I found it a bit of a struggle to figure out what was going on with it, certainly not favourable anywhere. My skinsuit was like it'd been in the sea afterwards.”

Tri Logic Cornwall’s Sealy finished in 1:00-49 for a dominant win in the women’s time trial, clear of Penzance Wheelers’ Martina Geraghty who clocked 1:02-09, with fellow Tri Logic Cornwall rider Sophie Butcher taking third spot in 1:04-00.

This event, run on the S101/25 course, starts just off Innis Downs Junction and heads west on the A30 past Goss Moor Nature Reserve to turn at Victoria interchanges at Indian Queens, then following the road back to complete a second lap, with riders completing a further two laps before finishing west of the start under the new A30.
