Nigel Polkinghorne (Duchy Velo) and Katya Tune (City Cycle Couriers) were fastest male and female riders respectively at the City Cycle Couriers’ 10-mile time trial near Buckfastleigh in Devon on Saturday.
Meanwhile Rob Lee (Plymouth Corinthian CC) was top rider on a road bike, while Katya Tune was also fastest female on a road machine.
Polkinghorne clocked 20-08 to win by seven seconds from Espoir Felix Whetter (Mid-Devon CC), while another six seconds back was Andrew Perkins (Mid-Devon CC) in third.
Tune’s time of 25-16 was 52 seconds quicker than Maria Weymouth (Mid-Devon CC) in second spot in the women’s event.
Prolific Polkinghorne has ridden ten events so far this season, but this was his first victory of the season. However, he wrapped up a good weekend with second spot in the Saint Piran 10 near Tesilian in Cornwall on Sunday, where he was also second at the Mid-Devon CC 10 last month.
Next on the cards for Polkinghorne is the National Circuit Championships near Modbury in Devon on Sunday which is also the final round of the Merlin Cycles Classic Series on a 25.5-mile course, as well as the Duchy Velo 10 the following Wednesday.
New to time trialling this season, Katya Tune was third in the City Cycle Couriers 10 back in April on the same course, and this time was over a minute faster. Earlier in the season she was second in the Couriers’ 13-mile event in February.
