Jason McGowan triumphed as fastest male at Penzance Wheelers 15-mile time trial in Cornwall on Sunday morning, with Martina Geraghty finishing as quickest female over the course.
In his first event of the campaign, McGowan lead the field with a time of 31-06, seeing off competition from Giant Helston team-mate James Grogan who was close behind in 31-19, while 32-13 was enough for Truro CC rider Alexander Boswell to take third place.
McGowan secured his first win since the Giant Helston Four-Up 25 back in September 2019, as well as his first individual time trial success since the St Budeaux CC 15-mile time trial in May 2016.
In the women’s event, Geraghty, riding for the promoting club, was the pick of the field after finishing in 35-46, while Tri Logic Cornwall’s Eve Sealy picked up second place in 35-53, ahead of St Austell Wheelers member Rose Willis in 39-14.
Riders enjoyed excellent conditions throughout the course, with the race held in memory of popular tester John McNamara who passed away at the age of 63.
This event, run on the S6/15 course, starts by the Old Mill buildings just north of Tresillian and proceeds north-eastwards on the B3275 and through Ladock and Newmills Brighton Cross roundabout and onwards to Penhale, where riders encircle the Fraddon/Kingsley roundabout and retrace the route south-westwards, finishing just before the start line.
