George Kimber (Embark Spirit BSS) took his first open time trial victory in the Mid Devon (Sporting) 20 held on a revised course, while Martina Geraghty (Penzance Wheelers CC) added another win to her vast collection in the women’s event.
Kimber, aged 23, recorded a winning time of 44 minutes and 44 seconds which was over two minutes faster than his nearest rival.
The planned 23-mile course was reduced to 20 miles after two sets of traffic lights appeared on the course with less than 24 hours before the start.
South West Time Trial’s Ian Myers and event organiser Andrew Perkins worked hard to create a revised route which saw riders tackle the 16% Farrants Hill twice, with Mid Devon CC volunteers stepping in to make sure the new course was well marshalled.
Conditions were fine as civil engineering degree student Kimber recorded an average speed of over 30.84 miles per hour on his way to victory.
Eighteen-year-old James Pearcy (Mid Devon CC) won the Tavistock Wheelers sporting 25 last month but had to settle for second this time out in 46-50.
European Masters Triathlon champion Don Brooks was a further five seconds in third overall and quickest veteran on scratch.
Quickest junior was Piers Mahn (Mid Devon CC) who finished seventh overall in 49-03 while his team-mate Jacob Start was fastest juvenile stopping the clock in 54-26.
In the women’s event Geraghty added another win to her growing collection recording a time of 58 minutes and 46 seconds.
She finished ahead of Urszula Donigiewicz (Cranbrook Cycle Club) in second (1-02-31) while Jodeci Pugsley (Exeter University Triathlon Club) finished third 1-08-31.
