Melanie Sneddon

Tom Scorer claimed the crown as fastest male while Melanie Sneddon was quickest female at the Penzance Wheelers 10-mile time trial in Cornwall on Sunday morning.

Royal Navy & Royal Marines Cycling Association rider Scorer finished in an impressive 21-02 to secure victory in his first race of the season, seeing off Duchy Velo’s Nigel Polkinghorne who was second in 22-29, and Lloyd Copp (Okehampton CC) who was third in 22-38.

In finishing at the head of the field, Scorer also has his first victory since winning the 25-mile Inter Services Time Trial Championships in May last year, completing the course in 46-43 – having also won the Tri Logic 10-mile time trial the week before.

In the women’s event, TORQ Performance rider Sneddon produced a fine display to go fastest in a time of 24-39, while a time of 25-32 helped Penzance Wheelers’ Martina Geraghty to the runners-up spot ahead of Tri Logic Cornwall’s Sophie Butcher in 27-36.

Elsewhere, Polkinghorne’s performance earned him the first veteran prize, with Kevin Treloar the fastest junior and first juvenile going to Oliver Riches with George Stacey second.

First juvenile girl was Sophie Treloar, while Geraghty was South West Champion and Lindsay Philp fastest veteran women for the South West Championship.

This event, run on the S6/10 course, starts on the B3275 at the entrance to Trecurno just east of Tresillian, with riders then proceeding north east before turning left and continuing on through Ladock and Newmills, circling Brighton roundabout to retrace back through Newmills and Ladock, finishing just short of the Tresillian Road junction.
