Timothy Torrie earned his fourth win of the season and set a course record in the men’s event at the API Metrow/Anglia Sport Zak Carr Memorial 10-mile time trial in Essex on Saturday, with the women’s event won by Karen Aylen.

Riding for trainSharp, Torrie clocked 19-57 to finish 10 seconds ahead of Nicholas Trbovic (Elysium Kalas Race Team) who took the runner-up spot in 20-07, while a time of 20-45 helped Verulam CC rider Adam Robertson to the final spot on the podium in third.

This triumph now means Torrie has four wins from ten time trials so far this season, and came into this event following an 11th-placed finish at the National 10-Mile Championship on September 3, while he also has redemption after suffering a jammed chain on the same course last year.

On his victory, Torrie said: “It’s a course really local to me, I regularly ride out for local time trials.

“I have been eager to do an open event on the course, last year in the same event I dropped my chain and it jammed, so it was a good workout.

“This year I had no issues and finally posted an official course record. I’ve done a 19:45 here so I knew I could do it.

“The wind back was a bit stronger than I imagined but it was nice to see Adam Robertson trying to defend his title and former winner Nick Trbovic ran me close, it would have been even closer but he had some traffic woes.

“I am happy to beat him given he had four seconds on me in the National 10-Mile Championships.

“I raced the ECCA on Sunday to round out the year and preparations for next year starts now. I’m trying to close those gaps to the best from this year.”

In the women’s event, Aylen (Maldon & District Cycling Club) set 25-13 to win from North Road CC’s Ivana Prokopova, who finished in 26-55, with Claire Lee (Shaftesbury Cycling Club) finishing third in 26-57.

This event is held annually in memory of top time triallist Zak Carr, who was a prolific competitor and held numerous national records.

This event, run on the E91/10 course, starts on the B184 and heads northbound through High Roding until reaching Great Dunmow, where riders turn and follow the course back along the B184 southbound to the finish line just before Roundbush Green.
