Jack Levick (Rose Race Team) finished well clear of his opposition in blustery conditions at the Shaftesbury CC 50, while Claire Emons (a3crg) was pushed for victory in the women’s event.
Levick, aged 26, recorded a winning time of one hour, 38 minutes and 28 seconds to win the event by over seven minutes.
The F2/50 saw competitors start at Childerley Gate before joining the A428 and completing almost four out and back loops between Cambourne and Madingley.
Levick took his eighth open victory of the season just two weeks after finishing sixth in the National 50-mile Championship clocking 1-44-11.
Lee Williams (Fulfil the Potential Race Team) also came into the race in good form with three open wins to his name, but had to settle for second on this occasion in 1-46-02.
Dominic Righini-Brand (Sleaford Wheelers) completed the podium positions stopping the clock in 1-46-56.
Spindata predicted a victory for Levick in 1-38-15 and despite the windy conditions he was just 13 seconds slower in reality.
“It was definitely tough day out and with the wind it was a bit of a battle to keep the bike straight at times,” said Levick.
“The headwind at times was little unrelenting and definitely picked up by the last lap, but the tailwind was pretty dreamy. Being able to throttle the power right down and still doing 34 miles per hour is always nice feeling.”
On the fast F2/50 course Levick was hoping to beat his open time trial personal best of 1-37-35, but the wind conditions ended his hopes.
“When I entered I was going with the intention of lowering my personal best time,” added Levick.
“However, watching the weather forecast as the week went on I realised that wasn’t going to happen.
“So I focused on just getting the win. I knew it wasn’t going to be straight forward as there was fast lads on the start list.”
Quickest veteran on age adjusted time was Colin McDermott (Festival Road Club) who finished fourth overall in 1-47-05 and had his time reduced to 1-45-04.
Mark Arnold (VTTA East Anglia) was the quickest road bike with his time of 1-49-33 also placing him sixth overall.
The team award went to Gloucester City Cycling Club with Daryl Stroud, Tim Radley and Vincent Douglas all combining.
The women’s event was a closer battle with veteran rider Emons setting a winning time of two hours and 15 seconds.
Emily Varley (Hitchin Nomads CC) battled throughout but was almost two minutes behind stopping the clock in 2-02-17.
Completing the podium positions was Elizabeth Williams (The Ark Cycles) who completed the course in 2-06-08.
