Becky Ridge

Becky Ridge (Loose Cannon’s Conditioning) and James Jenkins (Richardsons-Trek RT) both broke the old course records on their way to victories at the Lee Valley CC 10-mile time trial in Cambridgeshire on Saturday afternoon.

43-year-old Ridge clocked a personal best time of 20-38 for the F2a/10 course near Cambourne, giving her the women’s won by 17 seconds from Anatasia Bowler (Wahoo-Le Col), with third spot going to Team Milton Keynes rider Linda Dewhurst who was 50 seconds further back.

And in the men’s event 24-year-old Jenkins covered the course in an impressive 17-50, just eight seconds away from being a new personal best. That gave him the win by just three seconds from Alex Pritchard (HUUB-WattShop), while Richard Oakes (Team Ohten Aveas) was third with 18-08.

Jenkins’ time was a new course record by five seconds, beating Michael Gill’s 2021 time, while Ridge’s time sliced 32 seconds from Sophie Lankford’s previous best from 2018.

This was only Jenkins’ second completed open time trial of the season so far, having also won the VTTA Kent 10 in March but then failed to finish the National 50 Championship earlier this month.

James Jenkins

Ridge’s time was a massive personal best, slicing 1-27 from her previous best set in the VC Baracchi 10 in May 2022. She is next in action at this weekend’s VTTA London and Home Counties 10 as she hones her preparations for the National 10-Mile Championship in Northumberland on September 2.

The event included a category for middlemarkers, and the winner there was Steve Wilkinson (Regents Park Rouleurs in 22-26, ten seconds better than Carl Bond (Kenton RC) with Richard Hutt (Harp RC) third.

Top female in the middlemarkers event was CC Sudbury’s Susan Triplow who clocked 22-43 to give her third fastest including all the men. Second fastest female was Dawn Donaldson (St Neots CC) in 24-44 with third going to Newmarket C&TC’s Linda Hones in 24-55.
