David Halliday (Team Bottrill) was the only rider to break the 21-minute mark as he continued his winning form at the Eastern Counties CA 10, while Susan Triplow (CC Sudbury) was the fastest woman.
Halliday, aged 39, took his fourth open time trial victory of the season stopping the clock in 20 minutes and 55 seconds.
The E39/10 saw riders start at Leaden Roding before heading out in a north easterly direction on the B184 out to Great Dunmow before turning and making the return journey.
The weather for the Sunday morning event was sunny and warm, but most of the course had been “chip sealed” prior to the Ride London-Essex event last month resulting in slower times.
Preparing for the National 50-mile Championship in three weeks’ time Halliday was on fine form adding another victory to his growing collection.
Benedict Walker (Lee Valley Youth CC) is preparing for the National 10-mile Junior Championship in September near Newcastle-upon-Tyne and the youngster showed his form to finish second in a time of 21-38.
Completing the podium positions was Samuel Thienel (Elysium Kalas Race Team) who was the only other rider to dip under 22 minutes stopping the clock in 21-56.
The women’s event was won by Triplow who completed the 10-mile course in a finishing time of 26 minutes and 24 seconds.
On her last outing veteran rider Triplow was beaten into second in the East Anglian VTTA 10, but she was not to be denied this time out.
The only other woman in the time trial category was Claire Lee (Shaftesbury CC) who finished second in 28-10.
It was the first year that a road bike category was included in the event and a competitive field entered.
Quickest in the category was Patrick Claridge (Chelmer CC) whose time of 26-15 was over a minute faster than his nearest challenger.
The battle for second was an intriguing one as Paul Hennigan (Lea Valley CC) posted a time of 27-20 which was just two seconds quicker than Mark Thurlow (Shaftesbury CC) in 27-22.
Caroline Wyke (CC Sudbury) was the only competitor in the road bike category and stopped the clock in a time of 34-24.
