Paul Turton (Team Vision Racing – Silverhook) snatched victory by just four seconds in a closely fought Elite CC 10, while Louise Robinson (Essex Roads CC) was the only woman and finished in the top-10 overall.
Turton, aged 51, took his third open time trial victory of the season stopping the clock in 22 minutes and 27 seconds on the sporting course.
The E91/10 saw riders start outside Leaden Roding before heading out and back along the B184 to Great Dunmow before finishing before Roundbush Green on the slightly shorter return leg.
Despite the sun shinning a breezy afternoon, with a headwind on the longer outward leg, impacted on times.
Veteran rider Turton has shown his form on the sporting courses already this season winning the Maldon & District CC sporting 25 and Central Sussex CC hilly 10.
Turton was pushed all the way on this occasion recording an average speed of over 26.7 miles per hour on his way to victory.
Fellow veteran Peter Harding (Chelmer CC) came into the event full of confidence after winning the Maldon & District CC sporting 50 last weekend – beating Turton into second by three seconds.
However, this time out the result was reversed and Harding had to settle for second four seconds behind in the winner (22-31), while Andrew Wenham (Shaftesbury CC) finished third a further 10 seconds back (22-41).
Spindata had predicted a narrow win for Turton in 21-51 and despite times being down on what was expected a close battle for the podium positions ensued.
“I was pleased to get the result after finishing second in the Maldon & District CC 50 last weekend,” said Turton.
“It was a lovely day and the sun finally came out for once so it was nice to get out there. However, the wind was horrible going out into a headwind and it didn’t feel like a tailwind on the way back.
“The entire course had chippings on and it felt like a really draggy course, it was quite slow out there. The course was quite undulating and it was difficult to hold any sustained power.”
The only woman competitor was Robinson whose time of 24-50 whose time was good enough for 10th overall.
The road bike competition was a close one between two veterans as Giovanni Sechi (Athlon CC) recorded a time of 26-25 which was 11 seconds faster than Alex Elferink (East London Velo) (26-36).
