Louise Robinson and Edward Calow powered to victories at the Maldon and District CC 22-mile hilly time trial in Essex on Sunday.
Robinson, the 46-year-old from Cheshunt in Hertfordshire who rides for Essex Roads Cc, clocked 1-01-31 to take the women’s prize and was also fourth fastest of all the men too, with second-placed female being almost 12 minutes slower in Maldon and District CC’s Karen Aylen.
And Calow (Royal Air Force CA) covered the course near Woodham Ferrers in a lightning fast 53-51, finishing as the only rider to go under the hour mark with second-placed Matthew Saunders (Team Vision Racing) clocking 1-00-03, while the promoting club’s own Adrian Tovey being 1-07 slower in third place.
Despite several riders suffering punctures the course provided an interesting route. Starting north of Woodham Ferrers, riders head out on Crows Lane before turning onto Woodham Road to Stow Maries and then north on Hackmans Lane to Cock Clarks.
Then riders turn left onto Slough Lane to Bicknacre and then back south to Woodham Ferrers. After completing a second loop round they head back up Crows Lane to the finish.
This was Calow’s first open time trial for around 18 months, but he will be aiming for a repeat performance when he tackles the Kings Lynn CC 25-mile event on April 1.
The promoting Maldon and District CC had a good contingent of riders, with fastest junior being Chloe Dodsworth with 1-31-52 and sister Erica Dodsworth being top juvenile with 1-34-53.
While Robinson and Aylen were the fastest two females, Jennifer Tomblin (Greenwich Tritons Tri Club) was third with 1-14-52.
