Top road bike rider, Nick Giles

Ian Guilor and Mark Walker were forced to share the spoils as joint fastest men at the Rutland Cycling Club 10-mile time trial on Saturday afternoon, with Rebecca Waterfield finishing as quickest female in South Yorkshire.

In a remarkable finish, Spindata’s pre-race favourite Guilor (Mapperley CC) and Walker (Velo Sport Racing) both completed the course in 21-06 and could not be separated, with Mathew Stonley of Team Bottrill taking third place in 21-40.

For Guilor this represents a first win in just over a year since his Rotherham Wheelers 10-mile time trial success on July 2 2022, while Walker was fresh from success at his last race in the City Road Club (Hull) 10-mile time trial on May 20.

In the women’s event, Team Bavarian rider Waterfield clocked 24-36 for fine victory ahead of Born to Bike’s Gillian Campbell who finished in 26-48 while Tracy Gregory (Buxton CC) took the final spot on the podium in 29-23.

In the road bike category Nick Giles (Pocomotion Road Club) was fastest in 23-46, while Paul Armstrong (Team Lifting Gear Products) finished in 24-13 and Rutland CC rider Dominic Watts was some way back in 25-13 to take third.

In the veteran categories, the 70+ prize went to Melton Olympic’s Mick Stevens in 24-15, while an identical time helped Alasdair Bruce of Yorkshire Road Club to top the 60+ group and in the 50+ it was Lindsey Road Club rider Anthony Nash who triumphed in 22-20.

The field of 33 riders who completed the course avoided the intermittent heavy showers with just a light drizzle on the route meaning there were generally good time trial conditions.

This event, run on the O10/1 course, starts on the A614 just south of Hatfield Woodhouse and heads past Hatfield Moors until reaching Blaxton where riders turn and follow the course back northbound to Hatfield Woodhouse.
