Alastair Ribbands chalked up a sixth open time trial win of the season at the Liverpool Century Road Club 10-mile time trial in Lancashire on Sunday morning, while Samantha Howard was the fastest woman on the course.

Riding for Congleton CC, Ribbands earned a narrow four-second victory in 19-16, beating Velotik Racing Team pair David Williams, who set 19-20, and David Parkin who finished in 19-30.

Ribbands’ fourth overall open victory in 2023 is also his sixth including road bike triumphs, while he upset the pre-race Spindata predictions which had him down to finish fourth in 20-10.

The Congleton CC rider will now be looking to continue his fine form at the Buxton CC / Sett Valleys Cycles hill climb next weekend, before the Yorkshire Road Club event and the Warrington Road Club 25-mile 2-Up team time trial events both later this month.

In the women’s event, Howard (Mersey Tri) set an unbeaten 23-24, finishing ahead of 360Cycling’s Joanna Cebrat in 23-50 and the final spot on the podium went to North Lancashire Road Club’s Sue Cheetham who clocked 24-59.

A time of 21-01 helped Wigan Wheelers CC’s Matt Morris to the fastest road bike title, ahead of Weaver Valley CC rider Lloyd Smith who set 22-03, while a time of 22-44 helped Sean Cummins (Hoppers Rollers) to the final podium spot.

The 10-mile event, ran on the D33/10 course, started just south of Tarleton and headed west on the A565 past Holmes and Mere Brown before turning at the roundabout and following the route back to finish at Holmes.

Riders were greeted with near perfect conditions which aided time for the event, which was also the Brian Rooney Memorial Open.
