Jozsef Owen made it five open wins this season with victory at the North Shropshire Wheelers’ 25-mile time trial in Shropshire on Sunday morning, while Deb Hutson-Lumb won the women’s event.

Owen recorded a winning time of 50-51 to finish ahead of teammate Ben Goodwin who clocked 51-45 for the runners-up spot.

David James Williams (Velotik Racing Team) rounded out the top three in 51-50, just five seconds behind his close rival.

Meanwhile, Wrekinsport rider Hutson-Lumb recorded a time of 1-00-16 to top the standings in the women’s event.

Paramount CRT rider Hayley Wells came home second in 1-01-46 ahead of Gail Lowe (Congleton CC – MyWindsock) who managed 1-04-43 for the final spot on the podium.

With five wins from nine open time trial events in 2023, Owen has enjoyed a fine season and will be looking to continue this dominant form at the WCTTCA event on September 10 and the Fibrax Wrexham RC event on October 1.

Conditions were good for riders out early on the course, although there was some drizzle in places later on in the event.

Riders also faced light winds at points, but roads were in good condition without too much lying water to hamper their progress.

Ran on the D25/23T course the event started southwest of Market Drayton and headed south past Wollerton on the A53.

Continuing until the Hodnet Bypass Junction, riders then headed southbound onto the A442 through Crudgington until reaching Shawbirch and turning at the A5223 to follow the route back to the finish, just south of the start line.
