Keri Parton was fastest female and just four seconds away from the course record, while Thomas Brazier was top male rider at the Oswestry Paragon CC 10-mile time trial in Powys on Thursday evening.
Team Boompods rider Parton clocked 22-41 to finish as fastest female by 1-16 from Wrekinsport CC’s Deb Hutson-Lumb, while third female was Hayley Wells of Paramount CRT who clocked 24-18.
Brazier’s time of 20-17 gave him the win by just one second from Kieran Morris (Total Tri Training) with third fastest being Dean Callister (Revolutions Racing) with 20-36.
And in the road bike category, fastest was Steve Aston (Fibrax Wrexham RC) with 23-16, while Mid-Shropshire Wheelers’ Alvydas Janusauskas was 15 seconds back in second in that category.
The event used the D10/8 course which begins between Four Crosses and Arddleen and heads south on the A483, turning at the junction of the A458 just north of Welshpool before heading back up.
Keri Parton’s time was just four seconds away from the women’s course record, set last year by Frances Owen in the same Oswestry Paragon event in July.
She has been in good form this season – the victory at Thursday’s Oswestry Paragon event was her fifth open time trial win so far, while she was also part of the team which rode to fourth at the women’s National Team Time Trial Championships in May alongside Sian Marsh and Charlotte Hodgkins-Byrne.
“With a strong headwind on the way out which is also the longest leg of the course, it was certainly not a quick night so I’m really pleased with my time, the women’s win and being only 4 secs off the course record,” said Parton.
“I’m hoping to keep the form going for the National 10 in September, as well as getting some distance PBs.
“A top five at the Nationals would be the dream, but I’m also aware we have a super competitive women’s time trial scene at the moment so it is but a dream!”
For HUUB-WattShop rider Thomas Brazier this was his third victory of the season in open time trials, having also won the Hafren CC 10 last month and the West Pennine RC 10 in May.
“It couldn’t get much closer… only won by a second from Kieran Morris!” said Brazier. “I’ve had a long week travelling with work so I was glad I had a later start.
“There were gusty head/crosswinds on the way out but a very fast return leg as a result.
“I will likely enter National 10 before deciding in coming weeks whether I have the condition for the hill-climb season.
“It took me a bit of time to get used to a time trial position early season, but I’m happy with how the last handful of events have gone.
“Thanks to Oswestry for hosting, always a great event with a decent cake selection at the end!”
