Jozsef Owen earned his fourth consecutive victory with success in the men’s event at Port Sunlight Wheelers 10-mile time trial in Cheshire on Saturday afternoon, while Penny Thorn secured success for the promoting club in the women’s event.
Riding for Fibrax Wrexham RC, Owen clocked 20-53 for a dominant win ahead of Royal Air Force Cycling Association member Scott Hill who finished in 22-12, while Neil Buckley (Port Sunlight Wheelers) was 36 seconds further back to take third place in 22-48.
Owen is now unbeaten since success in the WCTTCA 10-mile time trial on May 20, with triumphs also at the 25-mile Chester Road Club time trial on June 6 and the WCTTCA 50-mile time trial on June 11 to continue what has been a very positive season so far.
On his victory, Owen said: “Strong winds made for a tough hit out on the local course. I was happy to come away with another win and more points towards my districts (WCTTCA) overall series total.
“Thankful to all involved putting on the event, especially grateful for the post race chocolate brownies!”
In the women’s event, Port Sunlight Wheelers’ Thorn set an unbeatable time of 26-25 while Fibrax Wrexham RC’s Tanya Samuels’ time of 28-29 helped her into second place with Frodsham Wheelers’ Susan Wilde completed the podium places in 31-56.
This event, run on the D10/25 course, starts east of Farndon on Barton Road, before heading west then curving southwest to the Llan-y-pwll roundabout to turn southeast to reach the Hogmore Lane roundabout, then return up the roundabout, then retracing the route back to finish just west of the start on Barton Road on the A534.
