Tim Beardmore

Tim Beardmore (Bridgnorth Cycling Club) took his first open time trial victory of the season finishing 52 seconds clear of his nearest challenger at the Birkenhead North End CC 25, while Deb Hutson-Lumb (Wrekinsport CC) won the women’s event by over two minutes.

Scratch rider Beardmore was the defending champion having won the same event last season and clinched first place again with a winning time of 53 minutes and 19 seconds.

The D25/8E saw competitors start on the A41 north of Prees in Shropshire before joining the A41 to Tern Hill and then turning onto the A53 to the turn at Hodnet.

Beardmore, aged 51, recorded a winning time of 53-55 to win the same event last year and improved on that mark by 36 seconds 12 months on.

Fellow veteran James Griffiths (Velotik Racing Team) is still looking for his maiden open time trial victory and had to settle for second this time out in 54-11.

A close fight for the remaining podium position saw Barry Murphy (Graham Weigh Racing-Deeside Olympic) stop the clock in 54-44 which was four seconds quicker than Jarod Garrington (Velotik Racing Team).

Competing for the top-10 positions was junior Reuben Corlett, representing hosting club Birkenhead North End CC, who finished eighth overall in 56-00.

In the women’s event 57-year-old Hutson-Lumb added another win to her growing collection stopping the clock in 1-01-33.

After finishing second in the previous day’s Mid Shropshire Wheelers 10 the Wrekinsport CC rider was a clear winner over 25 miles.

Second woman was Penny Thorn (Port Sunlight Wheelers) who stopped the clock in 1-03-46, while Kelly Anne Towns (Liverpool Phoenix CC (Aintree) finished third (1-13-56).

Mark Lovatt (Congleton CC – MyWindsock) took his fourth road bike victory of the season stopping the clock in 54-16, ahead of Steve Aston (Fibrax Wrexham RC) in second (58-29).

The women’s road bike competition saw a close battle with Sarah-Louise Robson (Liverpool Phoenix CC (Aintree) coming out on top stopping the clock in 1-13-01 which was 51 seconds quicker than Sue Satchithananda (Crewe Clarion Wheelers) in second, while Moyna O'Neill (Liverpool Phoenix CC (Aintree) finished third (1-18-29)
