Deb Hutson-Lumb (Wrekinsport CC) and Alex Royle (Manchester BC) were fastest female and male riders at the Mid-Shropshire Wheelers 50-mile time trial on Sunday.
The event was held on the new D350/1 course based near Hodnet in Shropshire, and although it started off a little cool the temperatures soon rose and the day ended sunny and still, although some recent chip and seal resurfacing on the roads made it hard going in places.
Royle clocked 1-48-57 to take victory by just 31 seconds from Velotik RT rival Toby Williams, with Alastair Ribbands (Congleton CC) third, 3-10 behind Royle’s pace.
And in the women’s event Hutson-Lumb covered the course in 2-11-29 to win by 44 seconds from Joanna Cebrat (360cycling) with Oswestry Paragon CC’s Helen Tudor taking third with 2-25-59.
Hutson-Lumb was also top veteran on standard with +25-08.
Previously in the army, Royle has started a new job in civilian life, and said: “I’m finding a new balance with training and work now, I’ve started a completely new career. I don’t have as many hours to commit to cycling as I used to.
“But a win is a win, and it’s always good. This event is on a nice new course, and the roads are the same as for the Anfield 100 next weekend which I’ve entered.”
The D350/1 course begins on the A442 south of Hodnet, and heads up to the village before turning south west on the A53 to Shawbury. Then they head through High Ercall towards Telford before turning back north and completing another lap, finishing just beyond Hodnet.
