David Williams registered a second consecutive win at the North Wirral Velo 10-mile time trial in Lancashire on Sunday morning, while Lucy Morley was quickest woman.

Having won the Liverpool Braveheart BC 10-mile two-up on April 1 Williams enjoyed solo victory in Lancashire this time, finishing ahead of the field in 20-23. Velotik Racing Team clubmate David Parkin was joint second in 20-40 alongside Joe Cosgrove (Anexo Group Race Team).

Cosgrove was the fastest junior, setting a new junior course record along the way too.

In the women’s event, Velotik Racing Team enjoyed more success with Morley securing victory in 24-58, ahead of the 26-01 set by Chester RC rider Rebecca Holland, with Fibrax Wrexham RC rider Tanya Samuels third in 27-43.

In the men’s road bike category, Birkenhead North End CC’s Paul Lawton was first in 23-21 while Charlie Geoghegan (North Wirral Velo Club) clocked 25-15 to seal second and Chris Redhead, riding for the promoting club, taking third place in 25-44.

The team prize went to Graham Weigh Racing-Deeside Olympic trio Niall Kenyon, Barry Murphy and Matthew Welsh, while Ruben Corlette took the Junior prize.

Also worthy of mention is Alexander Munro (SVTTA) who achieved a 31:18 on his 90th birthday.

This event, run on the D10/1 course, starts on Intake Lane, just southeast of Bickerstaffe, and heads north-east to the Rainford bypass, then left to the M58 interchange to where they turn back for home.
