Team Boompods’ Keri Parton was fastest female and Stephen Feeney (Tactic Sport UK RT) was quickest male in the Mersey Tri 10-mile time trial near Bickerstaffe, Lancashire, on Saturday.
Parton’s time of 22-32 gave her victory by 20 seconds from Deborah Moss (Springfield Financial RT) whose team-mate Therasa Taylor finished third, another 2-04 off the pace.
And in the men’s category Feeney clocked exactly 21 minutes to take victory by 19 seconds from Thomas Hanlon (Harry Middleton CC), while third was James Holloway (Ribble Collective) who was just one second further adrift.
Birkenhead North End CC youngster Reuben Corlett clocked 22-07 to finish as quickest junior by 8-10 from James Clinton (Liverpool Braveheart BC), while top team was the Liverpool Century RC trio of Paul Grindley, Peter Grindley and Sam Hughes with a combined time of 1-07-49.
Fastest female team of three were from the promoting club Mersey Tri, with Sara Owczarczak-Garstecka, Lisa Gawthorne and Magi Williams with 1-21-25.
Springfield Financial won the mixed team prize with Moss and Taylor being joined by Paul Russell with a combined time of 1-11-32.
It had been tipped to be a close finish by Spindata with 16 seconds separating the top three and so it proved, although their prediction of Holloway winning was a little off the mark.
Feeney’s win is his first open time trial victory of the season so far. Having placed sixth in the Chester RC 15 last month he was a non-finisher in the Crewe Clarion Wheelers two-up 16.5.
This was the second time this season that Parton has been a winner, having taken victory in the Liverpool Braveheart BC 10-mile event on April 1 where her time of 23-16 was 16 seconds better than Deborah Moss.
More recently, Parton has been fastest female at the Birkenhead North End CC 25 near Broxton in Cheshire on Good Friday.
