Thomas Garbett secured a narrow victory to finish as fastest male at the Mid Shropshire Wheelers 25-mile time trial in Prees on Sunday morning, with Hayley Wells taking the honours as quickest female.
Total Tri Training rider Garbett saw off close competition from Dean Callister by just seven seconds, clocking 55-50 while the Revolutions Racing rider took second in 55-57, with Stafford Triathlon Club’s Thomas Bill rounding out the podium places in 56-11.
Garbett secured his first senior open time trial victory, having previously finished fourth at the Dukinfield CC 50-mile time trial in Cheshire in May 2022, and will be hopeful he can continue his fine form into his next event at the Anfield Bicycle Club 100-mile time trial on Monday May 29.
Paramount CRT rider Wells finished the course in 1:07-48 to win ahead of Emma Bexson from Stratford Cycling Club who registered 1:08-12, while AeroCoach member Sorrel Williams finished in 1:11-34 for third place.
Elsewhere, the prize for best veteran on standard time was secured by Bridgnorth Cucling Club’s Tim Beardmore in a time of +11-36.
This event, run on the D25/20 course, starts just north of Prees and snakes southbound through Prees Common and Lee Brockhurst until reaching Battlefield, where riders turn and retrace the route northbound and continue past the start line to finish just south of Prees Heath on Heath Road.
