Matthew Wales (Fibrax Wrexham RC) showed his early season form by taking victory in the Chester RC 15, while Gwyneth Parry (Stolen Goat) won the women’s event.
Wales, aged 34, clocked a winning time of 32 minutes and 20 seconds – some 35 seconds faster than his nearest rival.
The D15/3 saw competitors head out on the A534 towards Wrexham climbing up to the turn at Wrexham Industrial Estate before doing a loop and then making the return leg.
After passing through the start there were two short kicks to the finish including a short final burst to Clutton.
Some 58 riders took to the course on a cold day starting in Cheshire and crossing over the Welsh border to Wrexham.
Wales finished third in the same event last season recording a time of 32-35 but went 15 seconds faster and two places better on this occasion.
Last year’s winner and course record holder of 31-34 Kieran Morris (Total Tri Training) had to settle for second on this occasion in 32-55.
In a strong showing for local team Fibrax Wrexham RC their rider Benjamin Goodfellow was a further four seconds back in third stopping the clock in 32-59.
With Jozsef Evans also finishing fourth for Fibrax Wrexham RC they comfortably won the team prize.
Tony Cullen was the quickest veteran on scratch clocking 33-45 and best veteran on standard.
Meanwhile, Chester Romei (North Shropshire Wheelers) was the fastest junior rider stopping the clock in 38-41.
In the women’s event under-23 rider Parry recorded an average speed of over 21.91 miles per hour on her way to recording a time of 41-04.
Parry. aged 21, from Shrewsbury, also won the WCTTCA 25 last season in Shropshire and got her season off to a winning start.
Veteran rider Rebecca Holland (Chester RC) finished second woman overall in 43-41 while Sally Cunliffe (Ruthin CC) finished third (44-10).
