Laura Davies and Chris Holmes powered to victory at the Norwich ABC 10-mile time trial in Norfolk on Saturday.
Davies (Jadan-Vive le Velo) covered the B10/43 near Harleston in 21-58, eleventh fastest overall and over four minutes faster than the runner-up in the women’s category Sharn Crane (Beccles Tri Club) with 26-09. Third was Crane’s team-mate Suzy Esser in 27-01.
Holmes (VC Norwich) clocked 20-06 to set a new course PB and take the win by 38 seconds from Diss and District CC rider Lee Shipp, while Andrew Whelan (Colchester Rovers made it a clean sweep of veterans on the podium with 21-00 for third.
“Going into the event I knew what to expect in terms of the course - a good surface, pan flat and a great one to put the power down on,” said Davies.
“This was my first race coming back from illness and I was happy to match my Spindata prediction despite the power being slightly down.
“It was a lovely tailwind out to the roundabout, but coming back felt like I was hitting a wall with a direct headwind. Great organisation as always by Norwich ABC.”
Orwell Velo’s Stephen Clark clocked 22-47 to finish as fastest on a road bike, while Brian Carr (Great Yarmouth CC) was next best in 26-11 and Chris Cantwell (West Suffolk Wheelers) was third, another 15 seconds back.
Rita Rue (West Suffolk Wheelers) was best female on a road bike with 29-42.
The event used the B10/43 course on the A143, starting to the north east of Harleston and heading up to Bungay before turning for home.
This was victory number four for Holmes, with his previous wins coming at the VC Norwich 10 on the same course in early September, as well as the Godric CC 25 in July and the Wisbech Wheelers 25 in June.
