Nic Pillinger claimed his first victory of the season at the Eastern Counties CA 10-mile time trial in Norfolk, while Linda Hones won the women’s event on Sunday morning.
On his 13th ride of the 2023 season, Pillinger claimed a first triumph having previously finished as runner up at the Finsbury Park CC 50-mile time trial on July 1.
This was also Pillinger’s first victory since the East Anglian VTTA 25-mile time trial on July 24 2022, where he completed the distance in 25-00.
On his win, Pillinger said: “My ride went to plan and, even in a small field, I was very happy to get the win.
“In doing so I’ve put myself in a very strong position for the season-long ECCA points competition. It was my first time on the B10/19 - it’s a great course with potential for some good times.
“My time trial season is almost over, but I have some duathlon targets to come.”
Coming in second, 1-35 behind in 22-57, was CC Breckland’s Thomas Carroll while Tom Hartwell (University of Leeds CC) set 23-33 to take the final spot on the podium.
In the women’s event, Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club’s Linda Hones was fastest in 26-20, while a time of 26-31 helped Claire Lee (Shaftesbury CC) to second place and third went to Sally Withey (Swift Racing) who was another 23 seconds back.
And fastest tandem was the VC Baracchi pairing of John Swanbury and Kate Churchill in 26-07.
Riders enjoyed warm and sunny conditions on the course, with the wind picking up meaning a tailwind on the way out and a rising headwind for the return leg home meaning times were slower than usual.
This event, run on the B10/19 course, starts just outside Hingham and heads west on the B1108 to Carbrooke roundabout, with riders turning at the roundabout to follow back along the b1108 to finish west of the start time.
