Timothy Torrie picked up his third win of the season and broke the course record at the Diss and District Cycling Club 25-mile time trial on Sunday morning, with Laura Davies finishing first in the women’s category and also set a new women’s course record.

Riding for trainSharp, Torrie set an unbeaten 50-14 to live up to his billing as pre-race Spindata favourite while second place went to Harley Matthews (D A P Cycling Club) in 52-18, ahead of Loose Cannon’s Conditioning rider Matt O’Brien who clocked 53-08.

After completing seven events so far in the 2023 season, Torrie now has three wins after also triumphing at the CC Sudbury 22-mile time trial on May 5 and the Maldon & District CC 10-mile time trial on June 17, and will be looking to build on these at the RTTC National 25-mile Championship on August 27 and then, on September 3, the RTTC National 10-mile Championships.

Jadan Vive Le Velo’s Davies enjoyed success in the women’s event with a time of 57-44, ahead of Loose Cannon’s Conditioning rider Hannah O’Brien who finished in 1:00-35, while Susan Triplow (CC Sudbury) managed 1:05-29 for the final spot on the podium.

“There was a great atmosphere in the HQ before the start and some great looking vintage TT bikes which I was drawn to,” said Torrie. “The weather was pretty dynamic with a strong southerly wind that just battered you along the entire course.

Laura Davies

“I remember riding the event back in 2020 where I was quite a way off the pace. This year I just seemed to be on it. My power was only eight watts lower than the last 10 mile TT I did.

“I’m very happy with where I am pre National 25 off a solid block of training. It’s always nice to break a fairly recent course record too. The Diss and District always put on a great event and it was a genuine pleasure to race.”

In other categories the fastest road bike rider was Newmarket C&TC’s Kerry Brennand with a personal best of 1-06-33, giving her the overall win ahead of fastest male on a road bike Chris Cantwell (West Suffolk Wheelers) with 1-11-52.

This event, run on the B25/17 course, starts west of Bressingham and head west past South Lopham and through Garboldisham on a rolling single-carriageway course on Thetford Road, before turning at Thetford Junction and tracing the course back to finish just east of the start line.
