Becky Ridge

Becky Ridge (Loose Cannon’s Conditioning) powered to second place overall and was fastest female too at the CC Breckland 10-mile time trial in Norfolk on Saturday. Meanwhile, Matthew Holland (DAP CC) was quickest.

Holland clocked a personal best time of 21-26 to beat Ridge into second by 1-18, while third overall was Tony Sorensen (Tri-Anglia Triathlon Club) with 23-03.

In the road bike category Jack Bent (UEA CC) was fastest in 24-12, just over a minute clear of second-placed Jonathan Hawes (Velouse Flyers) with Gillian Reynolds (Willesden CC) being third overall and best female on a road bike, covering the course in exactly 30 minutes.

The event used the B10/19 near Hingham, with riders heading west towards Watton on the B1108 Norwich Road, turning just before Watton centre and heading back to finish just before the start point.

This was Matthew Holland’s first open time trial victory of the season so far, with his previous best placing being fifth at the Kings Lynn CC 25 back in April, while he went on to place sixth at Sunday’s Diss & District CC 25 at nearby Bressingham.

Becky Ridge has been in great form all season, with this victory being her 13th open time trial victory of 2023. Recently she was victorious at the Kings Lynn CC 15 and Lea Valley CC 10 last month, while her wins in June included the Wisbech Wheelers 25, Godric CC 10 and East District CA 10.

She is next due to be in action at the National 10-Mile Championship in Northumberland on September 2, where she will be hoping to display some of the form which has seen her post personal best times over 10 and 25 miles in the last few weeks.

This event also included the East District heats of the National Youth Championships, with Great Yarmouth CC’s 15-year-old Toby Barnes being fastest with 23-16, while 14-year-old Abbey Thompson (Stonham Barns Park-SYRT) was second.
