Ross Fawcett was fastest male in his first open time trial since 2021 at the Wolsey Road Club 10-mile time trial on Saturday afternoon, with Claire Hall taking the prize for quickest female.

Riding for Orwell Velo, Fawcett completed a confident win in 21-52, ahead of Colchester Rovers CC’s Jamie Watson who clocked 23-21, while Chris Parker, of Ipswich BC took the final spot on the podium in 24-10.

Conditions were good with hot temperatures and only a little wind for the 17 riders who had entered.

Having not finished the Orwell Velo 20-mile time trial on March 26, then not started the Stowmarket & District CC 20-mile time trial on April 9 and the Kings Lynn CC 10-mile time trial on April 22, Fawcett completed his first race since the 2021 RTTC National Hill Climb Championship.

Hall, riding for North Essex Velo, secured the fastest female prize in 26-02, while the team prize went to Team Diss & District CC, featuring Rory Florence, Dom Bell-Tye & Patrick Ellis who clocked a cumulative time of 1.17-07.

This also ensure his first success since the Diss & District Cycle Club 25-mile time trial on April 11 2021.

In the veterans’ category, Trevor Roberts, representing the promoting club, won the 40-49 group, while Category B (50-59) went to Diss & District’s Rory Florence in 24-21, with a time of 24-16 helping CC Sudbury’s Nick Webber to victory in 24-16 and Ford CC’s Peter Tibbetts was fastest 70+ rider in 28-30.

This event, run on the B10/9 course, starts on the B1078 just south of Sudbourne with riders heading north west through Tunstall village and following the B1069 to continue south west until reaching the Bentwaters Airbase junction, to then retrace the route along the B1069 & B1078 past the start, where riders turn left and finish south west of Sudbourne village.
