Miranda Clements and Jo Matthews (Cambridge University CC) were among the winners as Diss and District CC staged a 25-mile time trial covering various categories in Norfolk on Sunday.

The pair clocked 59-12 to finish as fastest all-female team in the two-up category. They are both in good form, with Matthews having finished third in the BUCS National 25-Mile Championship and Clements fourth – just three seconds behind – in the same event last month.

Meanwhile Ely and District CC pair Simon Butteriss and Rory Havis being the fastest men in a time of 56-43.

Their time was 17 seconds better than Lee Shipp (Diss & Dist CC) and Ryan Gray (Ride Harder), while Clements and Matthews were third overall in a small but select field of riders who attended the event on the B25/17 near Bressingham.

The event included a medium gear event which was won by Geoff Frost (Team Velo Velocity) in 1-05-22, while second was Andy Kennedy (Ipswich BC) with 1-07-21.

Eroica style bikes were the order of the day in one category, and VC Baracchi’s Stanley Worrell was the winner in 1-14-50, Rob Hobbs (Diss and District CC) being second.

And in the Trike Association event victory went to San Fairy Ann CC’s Mark Vowells in 1-08-27, with the first on handicap being Mike Smith (Maldon & Dist CC) in an adjusted 1-03-58.

The event used the B25/17 course to the east of Thetford, beginning on the A1066 near Bressingham and heading west through Garboldisham, all the way to the outskirts of Thetford before turning for home.

Following on from their fast performance in this event, Butteriss and Havis are already planning their next rides, with Butteriss due to take part in the Shaftesbury CC 25 as a solo rider next weekend, then hoping to tackle the Lea Valley CC 25 on May 6.

Butteriss tasted victory once last season, winning the Yorkshire CF road bike 25 back in August, as well as second at the Leo 30 in October last year. For Havis, this was his first time on a podium at an open time trial since he placed third in the Ely and District CC 10 back in June 2021.
