Under-23 rider Samuel Asker (Richardsons-Trek RT) took victory by over two minutes in the Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club 10, while Lara Franklin (Stowmarket & District CC) won the women’s event.

Asker, aged 22, won his second open time trial of the season recording a winning time of 22 minutes and 23 seconds – an average speed of over 26.8 miles per hour.

The B10/48 course saw riders start near Cheveley before travelling south-easterly on an unclassified road through Saxton Street and Kirtling.

Competitors then headed back north joining the B1063 for the last section toward the finish near Ashley.

Asker also won the CC Breckland 10 earlier this month clocking a time of 20-25 and despite being considerably slower on this occasion was a clear winner.

Jordan Black (West Suffolk Wheelers) led the fight behind taking a clear second place finish in 24-28.

The battle for third was much closer with quickest veteran on scratch Simon Butteriss (Ely & District CC) completing the podium positions in 25-51 which was just 11 seconds quicker than Alex Purcell (CC Sudbury) 26-02.

In the women’s event Franklin took her first open time trial win of the season at her first attempt clocking a time of 28 minutes and 11 seconds.

Franklin also won the Hart Performance Coaching Spring Classic 10 early last season and has again started her campaign with a victory.

A close battle for second saw veteran rider Claire Hall (North Essex Velo) clock 29-48 which was just 13 seconds quicker than fellow over-40 age group rider Kerry Brennand (Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club) in 30-01.

Host club rider Charlie Payne was the quickest juvenile riders completing the course in a time of 35-42.
