Pre-race favourites Becky Ridge (Loose Cannon’s Conditioning) and Mark Richards (DAP CC) were fastest female and male riders respectively at the Plomesgate CC 10-mile event near Sudbourne in Suffolk on Saturday.

Ridge, 42, clocked 23-41 to finish seventh overall and fastest female by almost three minutes with Helen McKay (Les Filles RT) clocking 26-35, while Caroline Wyke of CC Sudbury was third.

Despite having to deal with some heavy traffic at the turn Richards was overall fastest by a good 40 seconds, the 37-year-old DAP CC rider from Lowestoft clocking 21-20 to leave Ridge’s team-mates at Loose Cannon’s Conditioning second and third with James Potter runner-up and Stuart Fairweather taking third, another 29 seconds slower than his colleague.

Potter, Fairweather and Ridge collectively won the team prize for Loose Cannon’s Conditioning.

Despite some heavy rain across much of the east coast in the morning, the afternoon cleared up and there was some sunshine as riders tackled the course near Sudbourne, although there was a moderate southerly breeze and some puddles remaining.

This was Becky Ridge’s first open time trial of the season so far, and she will be aiming to continue her winning ways at next weekend’s Orwell Velo 16.5-mile event as well as the Great Yarmouth CC 10 on Good Friday.

Richards placed second at the CC Breckland 10 a fortnight before this event, but will be pleased to have secured a win. Like Ridge, he too hopes to tackle the Great Yarmouth CC 10 on Good Friday.
