George Peden (Team PB Performance) came close to the course record in the Sherwood CC 10 despite taking a wrong turn, while Sally Maitland (Ratae RC) won the women’s event by nearly two minutes.
Peden, aged 23, from Leeds, took his fifth open time trial victory of the season stopping the clock in a winning time of 18 minutes and two seconds in less than perfect conditions.
Starting near Bingham the A10/3 saw competitors battle on the A46 on the out and back course to the turn at Elston before turning to the finish near Car Colston.
Very light drizzle for the Saturday afternoon event affected most riders and marginally wetter conditions greeted the later starters.
Wind conditions seemed variable with some riders describing tailwinds and others experiencing crosswinds.
The wet conditions resulted in 55 riders not taking the start while a further two competitors were non finishers.
Peden took a wrong turn on the final run in and missed out on Josh Gidding's 2021 course record of 17-48 by just 14 seconds.
The 23-year-old also won the VTTA National 50 Championship on his last outing in June and continued his winning run to five open time trials.
Scratch rider Oliver Peckover (trainSharp) finished second in the National 50-mile Championship earlier this month and was runner-up again finishing 27 seconds back in 18-29.
Completing the podium positions was Neil Cleminshaw (ADDFORM Vive Le Velo) whose time of 20-01 was a single second faster than his team-mate Andrew Miller.
With two riders inside the top four positions James Murphy also contributed as ADDFORM Vive Le Velo won the team award.
In the women’s event Sally Maitland (Ratae RC) was a clear winner posting a time of 23-53 and was aided slightly by starting in the first half of the field.
The battle for second saw Gillian Campbell (Born To Bike - Bridgtown Cycles) finish in 25-38 which was 27 seconds quicker than Jessica Beyer (Nottingham Clarion CC) in 26-05.
