George Wood (Cycling Sheffield) powered to a winning 19-55 at the Witham Wheelers 10-mile time trial near Silk Willoughby in Lincolnshire on Saturday, while fastest female was Sleaford Wheelers’ Evgeniya Righini-Brand.

Sheffield-based Wood, 21, clocked 19-55 and was the only rider to go under the 20-minute mark with runner-up Reece Egner (Witham Wheelers) being 1-22 slower with 21-17. Third went to Mapperley CC veteran Ian Guilor in 21-20.

Guilor was also the fastest veteran on standard with +5.52, 22 seconds better than Anthony Nash (Lindsay Roads CC) who was runner-up in that category.

Fastest female was 36-year-old Evgeniya Righini-Brand who clocked 25-28 to win the women’s category by 2-04 from Sleaford Wheelers team-mate Kathryn Smith, while third was Carol Milne of the promoting club in 28-19.

Sleaford Wheelers were also celebrating victory in the road bike category, with Luke Brookes proving fastest in 23-28. And a special mention must be made of Ron Hallam (South Pennine Road Club) who, at the age of 92, clocked 33-10.

The event used the C10/10 course to the south of Sleaford, heading south on the A15 through Osbournby and turning near the junction with the A52. Conditions were good with 22 degree temperatures, and only a very light wind.

Primarily a road racer, George Wood’s only other appearance in an open time trial this season saw him finish second in the City Road Club Hull 10 last week with an impressive 19-47.
