Teenager Finlay Tarling (Willebrord Wil Vooruit) took a convincing victory in the Melton Olympic CC 25 finishing over two minutes clear of his opponents, while Denise Burrows (AeroCoach) won the women’s event.

Tarling, aged 16, took his second open time trial victory of the season clocking a winning time of 48 minutes and 31 seconds.

Starting near East Stoke competitors joined the A46 at Elston before heading out to the turn at the Stragglethorpe Interchange.

Competitors then faced a tough headwind on the longest leg of the event on the A46 to Farndon before turning onto Fosse Road for the finish.

A cool temperature greeted riders for the Saturday afternoon event which impacted on times along with a disadvantageous wind direction.

Tarling also won the Lea Valley CC 25 last weekend in 48-53 and improved on that time by 22 seconds this time out.

Quickest veteran on scratch Julian Ramsbottom (Team Bottrill) was second quickest stopping the clock in 50-59, while Andy Thomas (Lindsey Roads Cycling Club) was third (52-02).

Ramsbottom also led Team Bottrill to the team prize alongside Mathew Stonley (53-09) and Mark Bottrill (53-28).

The women’s event was closely fought with Burrows taking victory by 21 seconds after posting a time of one hour and 11 seconds.

The 44-year-old also won the VC Sevale (Malvern) 10 in March and added her second open victory of the season on this occasion.

Sarah Harrison (Trek Sheffield) provided a tough challenge but had to settle for second in 1-00-32, while Gretchen Zoeller (VTTA Yorkshire) rounded off the women’s podium positions in third (1-03-56).

The veteran’s competition on age adjusted time was won by Joseph Costello (Legato Racing Team) with an adjusted time of 48-03 ahead of Malcolm Smith (Peterborough CC) in second (48-32) and Kevin Wood (Sherwood CC) in third 48-43.

And in the road bike category victory went to Norwood Paragon’s Simon Warren in 57-07, which was over a minute clear of runner-up Steve Chipping (VC Lincoln). Fastest female on a road bike was Michelle Hawley (Melton Olympic CC) in 1-06-35.
