Matthew Bagshawe

Matthew Bagshawe triumphed as fastest male from a highly competitive field at the Velo Club Long Eaton 10-mile time trial in Derbyshire on Sunday morning, with Susan Semple finishing as quickest female.

With the top five separated by just 30 seconds South Normanton CC rider Bagshawe set a time of 21-19 to see off closest rival Edward Rees (University of Nottingham CC) who clocked 21-23, while Team Bottrill’s Mark Bottrill was just six seconds further back in 21-29.

Fourth-placed Joseph Costello (Legato Racing Team) finished in 21-35, while Nick Hammond was also in contention with 21-49, in what proved to be a keenly contested time trial, with riders facing a chilly start temperature but also enjoying near-empty roads and very calm winds on what was not considered a fast day for the course.

Susan Semple

In the women’s event, Legato Racing Team’s Susan Semple set 24-49 to win ahead of Congleton CC rider Gail Lowe who finished in 25-07, while the final podium spot went to Pamela Moore of Coalville Wheelers in 33-11.

The Eva Wells Trophy for fastest rider from promoting club Velo Club Long Eaton was claimed by William Hayes in 22-09, for sixth place overall.

This 10-mile event, run on the A10/19 course, starts on Derby Road in Etwall, and proceeds along the A50 to Foston Interchange where riders turn and retrace.
