Veteran rider Stephen Feeney (Tactic Sport UK Race Team) took victory by just three seconds in the VTTA (North Lancs and Lakes) 10, while Deborah Moss (Springfield Financial Racing Team) was also pushed close in the women’s event.
Feeney, aged 50, recorded an average speed of over 28.1 miles per hour on his way to clocking a winning time of 21 minutes and 21 seconds.
The midweek event took place on the L1023 course with competitors starting Paradise Lane, Beetham, before heading south along the A6 in Cumbria to the roundabout with the A6070.
Competitors headed past Beetham on the slightly longer return leg to finish at the lay-by beside the River Bela.
Feeney also won the Mersey Tri 10 in April stopping the clock in 21-00 and despite going slightly slower on this occasion his time was enough for victory.
Matt Morris (Wigan Whs CC) has been in consistent form this season with 12 top-five finishes coming into the event and was searching for a second open time trial win.
Morris’ search for another open win continues as he finished just three seconds back in second, while veteran Steve Gibson (Peak Road Club) completed the podium positions in third (21-51).
Spindata had predicted the result would be reversed with Morris the forecasted winner, however it was Feeney who had enough on the evening.
The women’s event also saw a close finish with Moss adding another open victory to her collection stopping the clock in 24-39.
The VTTA National 50-mile Champion showed she is also powerful over the shorter distance recording an average speed of over 24.3 miles per hour on her way to victory.
Fellow veteran Charlotte Boothman (360cycling) was just 20 seconds back in second, while Sue Cheetham (North Lancashire Road Club) finished third (26-15).
David Bateson (North Lancashire Road Club) was the quickest of the two road bikes in 28-42. Meanwhile, Brian Moore (The Tricycle Association - North Western Region) stopped the clock in 34-15 on his tricycle.
