George Peden (Team PB Performance) battled against blustery conditions to take victory by over a minute in the Springfield Financial Racing Team 10, while Rachel Brown (Brother Uk - Team OnForm) won the women’s event.
Despite a tough headwind on the outward leg Peden, aged 23, posted a winning time of 18 minutes and 21 seconds.
The popular L1015 saw riders start outside Levens before heading out and back along the A590 to the turn towards Lindale.
A full field of 119 riders had entered the event, but uncertainty around the weather conditions with forecasts showing rain and thunderstorms throughout the day and into the evening resulted in a host of non-starters.
Despite the weather forecast the rain stayed away and it remained dry throughout the race.
However, a strong south-westerly wind made for tough conditions despite a welcome tailwind on the homeward leg.
In a tough battle for victory the top five riders all beat the 20-minute mark with Peden recording an average speed of 32.69 miles per hour on his way to victory.
It was Peden’s sixth open time trial victory of the season as he prepares for an assault on the National 10 and 25-mile Championships in the next three weeks.
Finishing over a minute back in second was Ben Lloyd (Fibrax Wrexham RC) who stopped the clock in 19-27 which was two seconds faster than quickest veteran on scratch Douglas Watson (GTR - Return To Life p/b Streamline) in 19-29.
In a close battle for the podium positions Lewis Wake (Team Kirkley Cycles) was a further three seconds back in fourth (19-32).
Brown was a clear winner in the women’s event recording an average speed of over 27.86 miles per hour on her way to stopping the clock in 21-32.
The 35-year-old also posted exactly the same time to win the West Pennine RC event, also on the L1015, in May.
Ten women braved the gusty conditions in Cumbria and veteran Donna McHugh (Pro Endurance Coaching) led the battle behind stopping the clock in 23-37 for second.
A further four seconds back in third was Kirsty McSeveney (..a3crg) who finished in 23-41.
Amongst the women finishers was para-cyclist Rebecca Newark (Velo Bavarian) who recorded a time of 25-51.
The road bike category had two competitors with Howard Leach (VTTA North Lancs and Lakes Group) finishing quickest in 26-43.
