Lancashire 25 wins for Conyers and Lawrence
Junior ace Bryn Lawrence proved fastest at the Lancashire Road Club 25-mile time trial on Sunday, while Caitlin Conyers continued her preparations for the World Championships next week with victory in the women’s category.
Lawrence, a 17-year-old from Bolton who rides for Anexo Group Race Team, covered the L2533 course near Cockerham in 57-31 to take the victory by 50 seconds from James Holloway (Ribble Collective), with Wigan Wheelers’ Matt Morris being third quickest with 58-37.
Fourth overall and fastest female was Caitlin Conyers (Rugby Road CC) who will be heading to Glasgow for the World Championships next week where she is riding for Bermuda and hoping for a good enough performance that she secures a place in the Paris Olympics.
“This year has been fantastic and I definitely feel I’m in the best form I’ve ever been in,” said Conyers. “I feel really content at the moment and I’m seeing some huge improvements in my performances.
“I’m the fittest I’ve ever been and hopefully I can stay healthy because at the moment I just feel really good and happy with everything.”
In other categories fastest ove-40 veteran was Matt Stell (Springfield Financial Racing Team) with 1-00-59 for fifth overall, while top over-50 was Paul Fleming (Preston Wheelers) with 1-01-16.
This win for Bryn Lawrence was his second open time trial victory of the year, having also been first at the Kent Valley RC 15-mile event earlier this month.
