Matt Morris (Wigan Wheelers CC) and Richard Nesfield (Giant-Kendal-Sidas.uk) couldn’t be separated as they shared the honours at the Preston Wheelers 25, while Emma Houterman (North Lancs RC) won the women’s event.
Morris, aged 31, and Nesfield, aged 39, both posted a winning time of exactly 54 minutes and 37 seconds to share the NLTTA trophy.
The Preston Wheelers 25 took place on the altered L2533 course which looped around the countryside using a mixture of A,B and unclassified roads.
Coming into the event Nesfield had one open time trial victory to his name this season from the Border City Whs CC hilly 13.5-mile event in March.
Meanwhile, Morris from Standish, Wigan, had never won an open time trial event and both competitors covered the course in an average speed of exactly 27.464 miles per hour to share the victory.
A further minute behind in third place was James Holloway (Ribble Collective) who completed the course in 55-45.
Spindata had predicted a victory for Nesfield with Morris predicted to finish fifth on the altered course.
“It’s my first open win so I’m over the moon with that result,” said Morris.
“There was a course change due to temporary traffic lights and the revised course was quite technical.
“There was a couple of tight corners which suited me and I think I made some time up on them.
“I thought coming into the event that if I could get a top three then I would be happy with that.
“Me and Richard (Nesfield) have been quite close this year and he has beaten me quite a lot so to match his time, I’m over the moon with that.
“I just pushed as hard as I could and the conditions were perfect.”
Springfield Financial RT won the team award after Andrew Whiteside, Derek Parkinson and Thomas Minns finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
In the women’s event Emma Houterman (North Lancs RC) took victory in a time of 1-07-42 beating the only other time trial bike competitor Rachel Orton (Tri Preston) into second (1-09-36).
In the road bike category Danny Halpin (Bristol CX) was the quickest of the two male competitors in 1-13-05, ahead of John Leach (Rossendale RC) in second (1-19-39).
The only female competitor in the road bike category was Christine Richards (Preston Wheelers) who stopped the clock in 1-23-05.
