Richard Nesfield (Giant-Kendal-Sidas.uk) proved quickest at the Border City Wheelers’ 13.5-mile time trial in Cumbria, while the promoting club’s own Rachael Maxwell was fastest female.
The out and back event near High Hesket uses the A6 running alongside the M6 down to Catterlen Interchange before heading back up. Nesfield’s time of 29-31 gave him the win by 38 seconds from Matt Morris (Wigan Wheelers), while third went veteran David Thompson (Rock to Roll CC), another seven seconds back.
39-year-old Nesfield’s team-mate at Giant-Kendal Craig Horsman had to settle for fourth with 30-39, while Chris Booth shored up the winning team with 31-12 for fifth. Fastest espoir was their team-mate Edward Moss, whose time of 31-50 gave him sixth overall.
Maxwell, 53, clocked 40-39 to take the women’s prize by 1-07 from North Lancashire Road Club’s Jan Scotchford.
Nesfield’s win comes after he placed seventh on the Bolton by Bowland circuit the previous week in Rossendale Road Club’s hilly time trial, and he will be hoping to repeat his win in two weeks at the Pendle Forest CC hilly 26.2-mile event as well as the Border City Wheelers’ hilly 20.2 on March 26 and the North Lancashire RC 50 the weekend after.
This was Maxwell’s first open time trial of the season, and she will be hoping to taste victory once again when she tackles the Border City Wheelers hilly 20.2-mile event near Laxonby later in the month.
